The meeting on Friday 9th October was by any measure a great success.
Hosted by Prudential in their London offices, the event not only attracted representatives from independent companies nationally, but also a great selection of speakers.
It was gratifying to receive thesupport of so many of the industry’s leading organisations, BSIA, IPSA, SSAIB, The Security Institute, City of London Police, The Association of Security
Consultants in the form of Roy
Sutherland and, of course, The
SIA including new Chief Executive
Bill Butler. The support of
commercial organisations,
Golden Shield, Richards
International, Britsec Security
and Commend UK was also
greatly appreciated.
After a welcome from the
Network’s joint Chairmen, James
Henderson and Mike Hurst, the
morning started with John Smith,
Group Resilience Director of
Prudential PLC, who gave the
audience his views on The SIA
and the industry generally, from
his corporate security position.
Following this, Bill Butler gave a
short introduction and took a few
questions, and also took an active
part in the Q & A session in the
afternoon. His time and
contribution was very welcome
as was that of the large SIA
contingent who attend the meeting.
IPSA were represented by CEO
Justin Bentley whose
presentation was, “British
Standards – Help or Hindrance”.
Brian Sims Editor of SMT Online
gave his views on the Approved
Contractor Scheme, and Security
Institute General Manager Di
Thomas, struggling with a cold,
outlined the work of the
Institute.
During lunch, the was an
additional and well-attended
presentation on Security
Screening, by Jonathan Grey of
Nova Risk Management.
Following the lunch break, Superintendent Lorraine Cussen of City of London Police, in her
presentation covered Community
Engagement and Project Griffin
and the SIA’s Katie Calienda spoke on the SIA’s intelligence
gathering and enforcement
operations.
The afternoon was finished off by
a short presentation from Romeo
Richards of Richards
International which gave the
security officers view of the current security climate
and a long Q & A session
with the SIA panel.
All in all, it was a really
good day.
